SDSU's Aerick Sanders Earns Second Mountain West Honor of the Season

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Aerick Sanders has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the period ending December 21. It is his second honor of the season and the third of his career.

Sanders, a Carson, Calif. (Gardena Serra HS) native, averaged 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, while connecting on 20-of-21 field goals attempts (95.2 percent). In the 90-71 win over Cal Poly, he hit 9-of-10 shots from the field and collected his fourth double-double of the year with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sanders scored a career-high 24 points, connecting on a school and MWC record 11-of-11 field goals, in the Aztecs 79-66 win against Eastern Washington. He also grabbed eight rebounds, blocked two shots and had a steal in 38 minutes of play.

On the season, the Aztec senior is averaging 14.1 points and 11.0 rebounds, while connecting on 64.5 percent of his field goal attempts. Sanders and the Aztecs (7-3) are in action tonight at nationally-ranked Arizona.

With his third career honor, Sanders ties the school record for most Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors. Randy Holcomb earned the award three times in his two seasons with the Aztecs.
