Aztecs Hold Off Eastern Washington, 79-66

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Aerick Sanders was perfect on 11 shots as he scored a game-high 24 points and keyed a crucial second-half run, leading San Diego State to a 79-66 win over Eastern Washington Saturday night.

Sanders, who also had eight rebounds, tied the school record for field goal accuracy. He hit three short baseline jumpers and made the rest of his shots right around the basket.

San Diego State (7-3), which led by as many as 16 points in the first half, saw the Eagles cut the lead to 50-48 with 11:12 left. But Sanders scored 10 points in a 17-3 run that put the Aztecs ahead 67-51 at the 4:37 mark.

Wesley Stokes added 18 points for San Diego State, which shot 68 percent (17-of-25) in the second half. Chris Manker added 10 points, all in the first half.

Marc Axton led Eastern Washington (3-7) as he scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, including six of the Eagles' first eight baskets. Alvin Snow scored 17 points, but committed six of Eastern Washington's 22 turnovers.

Sanders went 5-for-5 in the first half while Manker made all four shots as San Diego State took a 32-23 halftime lead. The rest of the Aztecs combined to shoot 3-for-19.
