LOS ANGELES - San Diego State twice fought their way back to even, but could not mount a third comeback falling to Air Force 3-2 at Loyola Marymount in a make-up of their game, which was postponed due to the San Diego fires. USAFA scored the first goal, but SDSU countered with a goal just two minutes into the second period. Again USAFA took the lead but SDSU answered with a goal three minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. However, Air Force got the final goal of the game at the 78:59 mark to secure the victory. SDSU is 7-7-3 overall and 1-2-2 in MPSF action.
Blake Perry scored the Aztecs first goal at the 47:29 mark coming off Kenny Fechner's ninth assist of the season. The Falcons Colin Eames scored on a shot from 10 yards out to take the lead at 58:27, but it was not long before the Aztecs struck again. Heath Creager took a pass from Kevin Sapanli and beat the USAFA keeper from fifteen yards out at the 61:53 mark. The Falcons' Eames struck again with 11 minutes left in the game as he put a header off a free kick into the back of the net to earn the win.
Creager's goal was his team-leading seventh of the season. Sapanli has tallied at least a point in four of the last six games and is tied for second on the team in points with nine.
The Aztecs host New Mexico in their regular season finale on Sunday at the SDSU Sports Deck beginning at 1 p.m. SDSU will honor their four seniors before the game.
A victory over New Mexico can put SDSU as high as the fourth seed in the MPSF tournament. If the Aztecs fail to win they will need Air Force to earn at least a tie with Denver in Sunday's other MPSF contest to secure the final spot in the tournament.
