Sapanli Named To All-District Academic Team

Nov. 6, 2003

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior midfielder Kevin Sapanli earned CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honors for the second time in his career for his outstanding play and work in the classroom. The district award now places Sapanli on the ballot for the All-American team.

Sapanli, a business major, has recorded a 3.87 GPA in his four years at SDSU. This year Kevin has netted three goals and posted two assists after missing the first four games of the season. Sapanli earned the MPSF Player of the Week award on Oct. 26 when he recorded two goals in SDSU's victory over UNLV.

As a sophomore, Kevin earned Academic All-American honors when he led the team in goals with eight. Last season, Sapanli spent the year studying abroad in Italy. Kevin has scored 12 goals in his career and tallied 30 points.

The Aztecs, 7-6-3 on the year, will finish out the regular season with two MPSF games this weekend. SDSU plays Air Force on Friday at noon at Loyola Marymount in a make-up as the originally scheduled game was postponed due to the San Diego fires. SDSU finishes the regular season against defending MPSF champion New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Sports Deck. SDSU can finish the year in second place and earn a first round bye in the MPSF tournament with two victories.
