LOS ANGELES - San Diego State gave up the first goal in the opening half of play and could never get on the board, eventually falling to Loyola Marymount 2-0 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
LMU tallied the first goal of the game at the 24:52 mark and then added a late goal as SDSU was forced to attack. SDSU freshman Tally Hall made his first career start in goal, and made six saves, including a stop of a penalty kick. The Aztecs fall to 7-6-3 on the year, while LMU improves to 11-6-1.
LMU controlled the action in the first half as they outshot SDSU 5-1, including the first of Joe Stoakley's two goals. The Aztecs came out more aggressive in the second period and earned a 13-7 shot advantage in the half but could not get on the board as LMU posted their sixth shutout of the season. Freshman Colin Jennings led SDSU with four shots.
The Aztecs finish the regular season with a two MPSF matchup's this weekend, which will determine SDSU postseason plans. SDSU will face Air Force on Friday at noon at LMU in a make-up of a game that was postponed due to the San Diego fires. The Aztecs return to San Diego to host New Mexico in the regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. SDSU can finish in second place and earn a first round bye in the MPSF tournament with two wins. The Aztecs can clinch a berth in the tournament with a win or a tie against Air Force.
