SAN DIEGO (AP) - Kendrick Johnson scored a career-high 25 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Troy State over San Diego State 93-84 Sunday.
The Trojans (2-1) hit 19 3-pointers in all and shot just under 48 percent from beyond the arc. The win stopped San Diego State (3-2) from claiming four victories in November for the first time in school history.
Aztecs senior Aerick Sanders tied a career-high with 21 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds for his third straight double-double and the fifth of his career. Teammate Brandon Heath also had 21 points.
Troy State senior Greg Davis had a game-high 12 assists to match his career best and scored 16 points, while reserve Zavier Mathis added 14 points. The Trojans had five players who scored in double figures.
The Trojans used a 12-1 surge to take a 40-31 lead with 5:40 before halftime. Troy State had a 48-43 lead against San Diego State at half time.
In the second half, San Diego State tied the game 75-75 with 6:32 left, but Troy State soon regained the lead. Johnson put the game away with a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 88-81 with 1:33 to go.
This was the first meeting ever between San Diego State and Troy State, which made its first trip ever to California for the game.
