Nov. 25, 2003

SAN DIEGO - Senior midfielder Kevin Sapanli received Academic All-America Third Team honors, announced by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. Sapanli holds a 3.87 GPA in business and was the second leading scorer for the Aztecs. It is the second time Sapanli has earned All-American plaudits, also being named to the team after his sophomore season.

Kevin finished the season with 15 points, despite missing the first four games of the season. He scored all six goals and tallied 14 of his points in the Aztecs' final nine games. Sapanli was picked to the All-MPSF second team for his play during the year as he ended the season in sixth place in the MPSF in goals scored and eighth in points. He also earned the MPSF Player of the Week award on Oct. 26 when he recorded two goals in SDSU's victory over UNLV.

"It is a great acomplishment and we are very proud of Kevin," said head coach Lev Kirshner. "He has exhibited the student-athlete profile to its highest degree by earning the Academic All-America honor for the second time."

As a sophomore, Kevin earned Academic All-America honors when he led the team in goals with eight. Last season, Sapanli spent the year studying abroad in Italy. Kevin finishes his career at SDSU with 15 goals and 37 points in 37 games.

SDSU finished the season at 9-8-3, their best record since 1994, including their first postseason win since 1989.
