San Diego - San Diego State split a pair of Mountain West Conference dual meets Saturday afternoon, defeating Wyoming, 174-126, and falling to UNLV, 193-107, at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center Pool. The win improved the Aztecs' record to 2-3 both overall and in the MWC.
Senior Hannah Ryan recorded SDSU's lone first-place finish on the day, winning the 500 with a time of 1:52.25. She later took second in the 50 in 5:01.89.
Freshman Caitlin Friedhoff saw her string of first-place finished in the 50 free in the last three meets ended when she was runner-up to UNLV's Katie Wronn. Friedhoff turned in a time of 24.96 in that event and also had a second-place finish in the 100 free (53.51).
Megan Storey turned in another fine meet performance, finishing second in the 200 butterfly (2:09.63) and taking third in both the 1,000 free (10:20.81) and 200 backstroke (2:09.78).
The Aztecs also got runner-up finished from freshman Adriana Quirke in the 100 backstroke (1:00.14) and junior Jennifer Arrow in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.69).
With two conference dual meets remaining, SDSU has surpassed last season's when they won just one league dual meet. The Aztecs have won a pair of those meets already with contests against Air Force and Colorado State yet to come. That double dual met with the Falcons and Rams is up next for SDSU and will be held in Fort Collins on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
