SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Pairings have been announced for the 2003 Mountain West Conference Women's Volleyball Championship, to be held Thursday-Saturday at Peterson Gym on the San Diego State University campus. SDSU (17-13, 7-7 MWC), the No. 4 seed, opens against No. 5 UNLV (11-16, 4-10 MWC) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The other quarterfinal matches are as follows: No. 2 Utah (18-7, 12-2 MWC) vs. No. 7 Wyoming (15-15, 4-10 MWC) at 11 a.m., No. 3 Brigham Young (20-7, 10-4 MWC) vs. No. 6 Air Force (14-14, 4-10 MWC) at 1:30 p.m. and No. 1 Colorado State (24-4, 14-0 MWC) vs. No. 8 New Mexico (4-24, 1-13 MWC) at 4 p.m.
Colorado State has just completed the first unbeaten regular season in MWC history and won its fourth consecutive MWC regular-season championship, while Utah is the two-time defending tournament champion. In last year's MWC Championship, the Utes defeated Brigham Young, 30-22, 30-25, 30-23, while Utah and Colorado State advanced to the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
The first three quarterfinal matches will be broadcast live locally on Channel 4 San Diego, while the fourth quarterfinal will be tape delayed and shown at 10:30 p.m. Both semifinal matches will be shown tape delayed, at 10:30 p.m. Friday night and 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, due to live broadcasts of Aztec basketball. The championship will be shown at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The first two quarterfinal winners will meet in a semifinal at 4 p.m. Friday, while the CSU/UNM winner will face the SDSU/UNLV winner at 7 p.m. Friday. The championship will commence at 7 p.m. Saturday, with the winner earning the MWC's automatic berth into this year's NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on ESPNEWS at 5 p.m. Nov. 30.

All MWC Tournament matches will be held at Peterson Gym, located on 55th Street on the west side of the San Diego State campus.
Day passes cost $7 for adults, $5 for students, while all-tournament passes are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Tickets are available at the Aztec Ticket Office (Gate G, Qualcomm Stadium) or by calling (619) 283-SDSU.
