Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision To Utah

Nov. 14, 2003

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State saw its four-match win streak come to an end as it dropped a three-game (26-30, 27-30, 12-30) contest to Utah Friday night in Peterson Gym. With the victory, Utah improved to 17-7 on the year overall and 11-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztec loss, coupled with BYU's win at UNLV, means that SDSU (17-12; 7-6 MWC) will be the number-four seed at next week's MWC Tournament in San Diego.

The Aztecs kept the scores close it the first two games, but could not contain the hitting and blocking of the Ute's Kim Turner and Lyndsey Henderson. Turner finished the night with match-high 20 kills and four blocks while hitting .760. Henderson, meanwhile, contributed 11 kills and six blocks.

Aspen McPartland led SDSU with 10 kills, three blocks and a .300 attack percentage while teammate Megan Schauermann had nine kills and four blocks while hitting .313.

The Utah offense proved too much to handle for the Aztecs as the visitors hit .450 for the match compared to just .160 for SDSU. San Diego State was out-blocked 11-7, only the seventh time in 29 matches that has happened this season.

The Aztecs conclude their 2003 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 15) when they host Brigham Young at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym. It will be Senior Night for San Diego State as it honors seven athletes making their final regular-season appearance.
