SDSU To Host 2003 MWC Volleyball Championship Next Week

San Diego - San Diego State will host the 2003 Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship Nov. 20-22, with the Aztecs opening at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Quarterfinal matches will take place at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 20, while the semifinals are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 21. The championship will commence at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, with the winner earning the MWC's automatic berth into this year's NCAA Tournament.

All matches will be held at Peterson Gym, located on the San Diego State University campus. The facility, which opened in May of 1961, is located on 55th Street on the west side of the San Diego State campus and has a seating capacity of 3,668.

Day passes cost $7 for adults, $5 for students, while all-tournament passes are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Tickets are available at the Aztec Ticket Office (Gate G, Qualcomm Stadium) or by calling 283-SDSU.

Pairings are still to be determined, dependent on this weekend's wrap-up of MWC regular-season action. Each MWC team has two matches remaining, one each on Nov. 14 and 15. San Diego State is currently 17-11, 7-5 in MWC action, good for fourth place. The Aztecs host Utah (16-7, 10-2 MWC) at 7 p.m. Friday and Brigham Young (18-7, 8-4 MWC) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

All tournament matches will appear on television with the semifinals and finals being broadcast nationally on College Sports Television (CSTV). Live stats can be accessed at the Mountain West Conference web site (www.themwc.com).
