Volleyball Defeats Wyoming 3-0 In Conference Matchup

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State avenged a three-game loss in Laramie earlier in the season as it defeated Wyoming, 3-0 (30-18, 30-26, 30-26), Saturday evening in Peterson Gym. With the win, the Aztecs improve to 14-11 on the season as they evened their conference record to 5-5. In the process, they solidified their grip on fourth place in the conference standings, extending their lead over fifth-place Air Force to two games. The Cowgirls, meanwhile, fell to 14-12 overall and 3-8 in league play.

SDSU was paced by the hitting of seniors Aspen McPartland and Zlatina Anguelova. McPartland had for the second straight match while hitting .333 and contributing seven digs and three blocks. Anguelova finished the night with 10 kills, five digs, four blocks and a .391 attack percentage.

Wyoming was led by Sara Maytorena with a dozen kills to go with four blocks and a .500 hitting percentage. Libero Amanda Miller led all players with 13 digs.

San Diego State got out of the blocks quickly in the first game, taking the lead at 5-4 and never looking back. The match was effectively put away when the Aztecs ran off seven straight points midway through the contest to take a 23-11 lead. McPartland had six kills and Kara Moriarty chipped in five for SDSU, which hit .333 for the game compared to .200 for the visitors.

Game two was a tighter affair with neither team able to take control. With the match tied at 22-22, SDSU scored back-to-back points and maintained the lead as it went on to the four-point win. Anguelova led the Aztecs, tallying five kills while McPartland and Melissa Cansdale had four apiece. The Cowgirls got four kills each from Michele Rauter and Jill Roslund.

The third game saw Wyoming maintain a slim lead through most of the contest, but eventually be caught when the Aztec knotted the score at 19-19. SDSU then scored three consecutive points, two coming on kills by Anguelova, and maintained that lead to the conclusion of the match. McPartland, who scored to of SDSU's final three points, tallied seven kills in the game with Maytorena recording six for the Cowgirls.

Up next for San Diego State is a visit to cross-town rival University of San Diego on Tuesday (Nov. 4). That match gets underway at 7:00 p.m. in USD's Jenny Craig Pavilion.
