BROOMFIELD, Colo. - San Diego State leads the Colorado/Heather Farr Memorial Invitational after firing a season best 298 (+10) on Monday in Broomfield, Colorado. The Aztecs hold a two-stroke lead over the University of Denver with 18-holes remaining on Tuesday. SDSU's Sandy Kim and Heather MacRae both shot even-par rounds of 72 and are tied for second heading into the final round. The round of 298 is the Aztecs' lowest team score since April of 2002 when they shot 296 at the MWC Championships. SDSU is seeking its first team title since it won the Heather Farr Memorial in 2000.
Kim recorded her second round of 72 on the season, while MacRae's round is the best of her Aztec career. The Aztecs started off the backside to open the tournament. Kim's only blemish was a double-bogey on the par-five 15th, her sixth hole, while recording birdies on the fifth and the eighth hole coming down the stretch. MacRae was not quite as steady in shooting her par. Heather was even par before running off three straight birdies on 17, 18, and one. However, she dropped three shots on the last seven holes to finish at 72.
Jenna Wilson and Megan Mulhaupt both shot five-over par 77 to round out the Aztec scoring. The two newcomers are tied for 25th after the first day of the tournament. The highlight of the day for Wilson was the Aztecs' first eagle of the year, when she posted a three at the par five 18th. Shayna Miyajima shot 79 as she was unable to post a birdie in her round.
The tournament will finish with 18-holes on Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 am MST.
