Piscataway, N.J. - San Diego State fell to No. 14 St. John's 1-0 in New Jersey on Sunday at the Phillips/adidas Classic hosted by Rutgers. The Aztec defense remained stout against one of the best teams in the country but the offense was held in check by the Red Storm. SDSU held St. John's scoreless in the first half but SJU tallied the game winner at the 59:43 mark to earn the win. SDSU is now 6-3-1 on the season, while St. John's improves to 8-3-1.

St. John's senior Simone Salinno tallied his ninth goal of the season in the second half when he deflected a shot off of the crossbar into the back of the net for the lone goal of the game. SDSU's Colin Hanke made five saves in net.

The Red Storm has built one of the top soccer programs in the country as they have advanced to the NCAA tournament the past 10 years, and won their first round game seven straight times, only one of two schools to have accomplished the feat. SDSU dropped both contests over the weekend as they also were defeated by No. 11 Rutgers on Friday.

SDSU returns to the Sports Deck, where they are a perfect 5-0 and have recorded the venue's top winning streak, on Saturday, October 11 to face cross town rival University of San Diego. USD has won the last three meetings between the two schools, but SDSU leads the all-time series 9-3-2. The game kicks off at 2:00 pm.
