Aztecs Advance to Top-Flight Singles and Doubles Finals at SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Indra Erichsen and senior Katalina Romero, ranked 44th nationally in doubles, advanced to the Flight A doubles championship with an 8-6 victory over 31st-ranked Jenny McGaffigan and Cynthia Goulet of Illinois on Saturday at the SDSU Fall Classic.

The upset victory by the Aztec top doubles team completed an impressive day for San Diego State, posting a 4-2 singles record and a 3-1 doubles record on the second day of the three-day tournament at SDSU.

In Flight A singles, sophomore Dita Hauerlandova advanced to Sunday's final as her opponent, Tara Livesay of San Diego resigned. Hauerlandova, who defeated a nationally-ranked opponent on Friday, led 6-0, 2-0 when the match was halted.

"We played better on day two than we did on day one," San Diego State head coach Petter Mattera said. "I think we got rid of some of the jitters we had on day one and we received good singles play from Dita Hauerlandova and Alesya Vidov. I feel good about the direction we are heading."

In addition to the top-flight singles and doubles titles, San Diego State will also be have Katalina Romero playing for third place in Flight A singles, Patricia Graf and Indra Erichsen playing for the backdraw title in Flight B singles and Alesya Vidov in the backdraw final in Flight C singles.

The final day of the SDSU Fall Classic is scheduled for Sunday and will begin at 8 a.m. PDT on the San Diego State campus at the SDSU Courts.
