SDSU Volleyball Falls In Three Games At Wyoming

Oct. 3, 2003

LARAMIE, Wyo. - San Diego State saw a six-match win streak over Wyoming come to an end as it fell to the Cowgirls, 3-0 (19-30, 29-31, 28-30), Friday night at UW's MultiPurpose Gym in Laramie. It was the Aztecs' first conference loss of the season as they fell to 1-1 in league play and 9-7 overall. Wyoming, meanwhile, improved to 11-6 overall on the year and 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play.

Three Aztecs finished the contest in double figures in kills, led by Aspen McPartland with 14. Kara Moriarty chipped in with 12 kills while Megan Schauermann had 11. Schauermann also led SDSU with four blocks, but as a team, SDSU was outblocked by the home team, 10-4.

Michele Rauter, an all-MWC selection last season, had a match-high 17 kills and hit .650 for the match. Joining her in double figures were teammates Jill Roslund (15 kills) and Sara Maytorena (13 kills).

San Diego State's offense stalled in game one, hitting just .100 to Wyoming's .556. From that point on, the offense picked up, but the Cowgirls managed a pair of close two-point victories in the next two games to capture the match.

Up next for the Aztecs is another MWC contest on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 25th-ranked Colorado State beginning at 7:00 p.m. (MDT).
