Oct. 28, 2003

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Kevin Sapanli was named MPSF Brine Player of the Week on Monday for leading the Aztecs to a 1-0-1 record to open conference action. Sapanli scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the Aztecs 3-1 victory at UNLV on Monday in the conference opener for SDSU. It was the first road win for SDSU in almost two years. The Aztecs followed the victory with a 1-1 tie against Denver on Friday in the second game of the week to get SDSU out to its best start ever in MPSF action.

The two scores for Sapanli were the first of the season and give him 11 in his career. Sapanli had not tallied a goal for SDSU since 2001 as he sat out last season while studying abroad in Italy. In 2001, Sapanli led SDSU with 19 points and was named All-MPSF and a Verizon Academic All-American as has posted a 3.87 GPA in business.

SDSU is now 7-4-2 on the year and will continue MPSF play this weekend as they travel to Sacramento State on Friday, and play at San Jose State on Sunday, who currently leads the conference with a perfect 4-0 record.
