SAN DIEGO - San Diego State won the Lady Aztec Invitational with a school record 54-hole team score of 878 (+14). The Aztecs shot 294 in Tuesday's final round and increased its winning margin to 13 strokes over second place Nevada. SDSU freshman Jenna Wilson earned medalist honors shooting a tournament low five-under 67 to win by six strokes at five-under 211. The win is the first for SDSU's women since a win at the Heather Farr in October of 2000.

In addition, the Aztecs played with only four golfers in the last round, as senior Sandy Kim withdrew with a back injury on the first hole. Therefore the squad knew from the start they would have to count every score of the last round, and all four came through.

"Shooting what they did, especially today knowing that every shot counts, was incredible," said SDSU head coach Felicia Brown. "They showed a lot of fortitude and just put out an outstanding effort. I am extremely proud."

Wilson, a freshman from Scotland, entered the final round tied for the individual lead, and shot the best score of the three rounds to clinch the win. The 211 total is the lowest 54-hole individual score in Aztec history, topping the previous best of Karen Engberg (1996) by six strokes. In addition, Jenna is the first individual to claim a tournament title since Joanne Clingan won the Heather Farr in October of 2000. Wilson also claimed a second place finish at the Aztecs' last tournament, the Colorado Heather Farr Memorial, where she carded a 68 in the final round.

"Jenna is an outstanding player, but not only that a great teammate," said Brown. "We are really happy to have her as part of our program."

Senior Shayna Miyajima posted a fifth place finish at 219 (+3) after shooting 74 in Tuesday's round. It is the first top 10 finish of the year for the Aztec veteran.

Junior transfer Heather MacRae shoot 74 in the final round and finished at 227, which tied with Jamie Oliver for the final scores for SDSU. Oliver posted a 79 to round out the last 18-holes, and both players tied for 17th overall.

"Hopefully this gives us good momentum heading into the rest of the season. I don't want to get greedy, but we can still get even better," said an excited Brown. "We have a lot more things that we want to accomplish this season as we are setting our sights on conference, regionals, and nationals."

The Aztecs JV squad also faired well finishing in ninth place overall at 937 (+73). Toni Lutz led the second team with a 231 to tie for 23rd and Megan Mulhaupt placed 29th at 232. Holly Goncalves, Cameron MacFarland, and Abby Lasater rounded out the Aztec scoring with scores of 237, 242, and 245, respectively.
