Aztecs Unable To Rebound From Slow Start At Barona Cup

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team could not rebound from a slow start at the Barona Collegiate Cup at Barona Creek Golf Club and finished in 13th place as they shot 868 for the tournament. SDSU opened with a 300 and then shot the third best score of the second round as they posted a 279, and finished with a 289. Colorado State won the tournament with a 28-under 836. Chris Baryla from UTEP shot an impressive 17-under par 199 to win the individual title by three strokes. Andrew Scott led the Aztecs with a three-under 213.

Scott posted scores of 71-70-72 and finished in 25th position. Andrew finished second at last week's Fresno Lexus Classic. Jeff Hansen posted a final round 70 to finish at 217, the second best score for the Aztecs. Hansen opened with 76 before shooting a second round 71 and finished in 41st.

Aaron Goldberg shot 220, while Jamie Puterbaugh and Cory Segall fired 222 and 226, respectively. SDSU was playing without their top performer senior Mark Warman, who was fufulling academic requirements.

The SDSU JV team was led by Kyle Forbes who shot 220. Linus Nillson, Steven Eschbach, and Jason Puterbaugh rounded out the team with scores of 224, 228, and 235.

The Aztecs' have finished their fall portion of the year and will resume play in the spring at the John A. Burns Invitational in Hawaii on February 18.
