Final Stats

LARAMIE, Wyo. - San Diego State fell to the Wyoming Cowgirls 3-1 in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer match Sunday. Wyoming (7-6-0, 2-0-0 MWC) records their first-ever win against the Aztecs (5-7-1, 0-1-0 MWC) and move into a three-way tie for first place in the MWC with Brigham Young and Utah.

Despite the loss, SDSU recorded the most shots (25) for an Aztec team since taking 34 against Eastern Washington on Sept. 2, 2001. The Aztecs also had eight corner kicks to Wyoming's zero, which is the first time San Diego State has held an opponent without a corner kick since Aug. 30, 2002, against UC Riverside.

Even though SDSU out-shot Wyoming in the first half 16-5 and held a 7-0 corner kick advantage at that point, Cowgirl forward Mercy Adetoye scored the lone goal of the match's first half at the 39:11 mark.

The second half was more statistically even, with each team taking nine shots and the Aztecs having the lone corner kick of that half.

Forward Courtney Burns scored her second goal of the season and in as many matches to tie the game at the 50:22 mark. Forward Becky Prilaman and defender Erica Lopez earned assists on the goal.

Wyoming responded quickly with defender Kristen Stangl giving the Cowgirls back the lead at the 54:41 mark. Adetoye added on her second goal of the match and third of the season at the 70:47 mark to put the Aztecs away.

Aztec midfielder Jessica Korpela contributed three shots (one on goal) and defender Annette Shinn had two shots, both on goal. Ten other Aztecs had at least one shot.

Wyoming's first victory over the Aztecs cut SDSU's all-time lead to 3-1-1.

San Diego State has their only home MWC matches this week, playing Brigham Young (10-3-1, 2-0-0 MWC) at 3 p.m. Thursday and Utah (11-2-0, 2-0-0 MWC) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
