Oct. 11, 2003

FRESNO, Calif. - San Diego State earned second place in the Fresno State Lexus Classic after shooting 30-under par 834 in the 54-hole tournament. SDSU posted the lowest final round score at 277 (-11), but it was not enough to catch Colorado State who finished at 831. SDSU opened with a round of 285 but followed with 272 in yesterday's second round to close the gap to five entering today. The Aztecs' Andrew Scott and Mark Warman led the way as they posted scores of 205 of 206 to finish second and third, respectively. It is the second straight tournament SDSU has placed as the runner-up, after earning second at the Washington Husky Invitational last week.

Scott posted his highest finish with the Aztec varsity squad by posting scores of 69-66-70 to finish at 11 under par. Andrew finished only one-stroke behind individual medalist Nolan Martin of Colorado State, who shot 204. The 66 in the second round was a career low for the sophomore. Scott won the Southern California Intercollegiate last year playing with the junior varsity team.

Warman registered his highest finish of the season, and his third top 10 in four tournaments. Mark fired a 66 in the final round, the lowest score of the day, to propel up the leaderboard. Warman opened with a 72 and finished opening day with a 68. Mark had also posted top 10 finishes at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate and the Washington Invitational, finishing eighth in both tournaments.

Freshman Cory Segall earned his second straight top 10 finish with a 211. Segall shot 74-70-67 to finish in 10th place. The 67 was the second best score on Saturday. Cory placed second at last week's Husky Invitational, and entered the tournament with the Aztecs lowest scoring average at 71.50. Fellow freshman Jamie Puterbaugh placed 27th after firing 70-71-74 for a one-under 215.

Aaron Choi and Linus Nilsson rounded out the Aztec scoring at 221 and 226, respectively. Jeff Hansen played the tournament as an individual and placed 31st after an even par 216.

SDSU will host the Barona Collegiate Cup next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20-21, at Barona Creek.
