SAN DIEGO - After winning a pair of matches yesterday, San Diego State sophomore Daniel Jung was forced out of the 2003 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., following an injury in his round of 64 match on Saturday.
Jung trailed 17th-seeded Zach Dailey from Vanderbilt, 6-4, 2-0, when he resigned.
In the first day of doubles play, the team of Jung and senior Mike Coehlo defeated Jean De Lange and Sanzaruz Zaman of Alabama-Birmingham, 8-5 in the round of 128. Later in the day, the Aztec pair fell to Zach Dailey and Lewis Smith of Vanderbilt, 8-3 in the round of 64.
The ITA All-American Championship is the first of three tournaments, which comprise the men's grand slam tournament. The pre-qualifying tournament started with 256 singles players and will be played out to the quarterfinals at which time the remaining eight players earn spots into the qualifying tournament.
San Diego State has no players remaining in the pre-qualifying draw, but will be back in action when seniors Ryan Redondo and Felix Hardt take part in the qualifying singles tournament beginning on Tuesday.
