SAN DIEGO - San Diego State fell to Point Loma Nazarene 2-0 on Thursday evening at Point Loma. SDSU falls to 2-1 on the season. The Aztecs outshot the Sea Lions 20-14 but were unable to register a goal. PLNU scored their first goal on a penalty kick in the first half and used the momentum to notch the second goal two minutes later. It was the first ever win for PLNU in the 12 times that the two schools have met.
The Aztecs had several quality chances in the opening minutes of the game but were unable to get the shots on goal. In the 41st minute, SDSU was called for a foul giving PLNU the penalty kick. At 43:02 into the first half, two Sea Lion attackers broke free from the defense and ended up scoring the games final goal.
SDSU picked up the pressure in the second half and peppered the PLNU goalkeeper with 12 shots, but could not break the Sea Lion defense. Colin Hanke made five saves for SDSU in the first half and allowed both goals. Freshman Tally Hall played the final 45 minutes and made one save.
SDSU's next contest is at home against UC Riverside on Sept. 13.
