Albuquerque, N.M. - San Diego State posted a second round 306 at the Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico but remained in 14th place with a two-day total of 620. SDSU shaved eight strokes off of their first round score but were unable to gain ground as overall scores improved on the day. Senior Sandy Kim led SDSU with a one-under par 72, while fellow senior Shayna Miyajima posted a one-over par 74.
Kim rebounded from an 81 yesterday to tie her career best score in relation to par. Sandy was one of 17 individuals to break par on Friday. Kim also shot one-under par scores of 71 two times last year. Kim opened with five straight pars before going to +1 with a bogey on her sixth hole. But Sandy finished with two birdies on the last two holes of the front side and posted one birdie and one bogey on the back nine. Kim is now at +7 for the tournament and sits in a tie for 36th position overall.
Miyajima shot 74 to go with a two-over 75 on Thursday, and is tied for 12th at 149 (+3) after the opening two rounds. Shayna was also -1 under on the her first nine of the day but made two bogeys on her way in. Jenna Wilson shot 79 and Jamie Oliver posted an 81 for the final two Aztec scores of the day.
The Aztecs will finish the tournament on Saturday with the final 18 holes starting at 8:30 a.m.
