Box Score

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's soccer earned a 2-1 victory over Hofstra on Saturday at the SDSU Sports Deck to improve to 5-1-1 on the season. SDSU is off to its best start since 1991, when it began the year 7-0, and remain a perfect 3-0 at home. Freshman Dione Scott scored his third goal of the season in the 77th minute to seal the Aztec victory.

Both teams went without a goal in the first half, and were tied with five shots apiece in an evenly contested period. The Aztecs scored the initial goal in the second half, when Matt Couch took a ball from Andrew DiCicco and drilled it past the Hofstra goalkeeper at the 55:16 mark. Kraig Chiles also earned an assist on Couch's first goal of the year.

However, the Pride answered right back as they wove through the Aztec defense and posted a score only 16 seconds later to tie the game at one. It was Scott who came through for the Aztecs in the crunch in this game. Scott took a rebound, made a move around a defender and rocketed a shot from the right corner of the box just inside the left post. Scott's unassisted score at the 76:28 mark ties him with Heath Creager as SDSU's leading scorer with three goals apiece. In five SDSU wins this season, there have been five different Aztecs come up with game winning scores.

SDSU outshot its opponent for the fifth time in sixth games as they tallied 18 shots compared to only 10 for the Pride. The Aztecs also posted a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Colin Hanke made four saves in goal to earn the victory.

The Aztecs host Albany in the second game of the USD Tournament on Sunday at 2:00 p.m at the Sports Deck, where they are a perfect 3-0 on the year.
