Women's Golf In Solid Position After First Round Of Season

Albuquerque, N.M. - San Diego State women's golf team shot a +22, 314 in their first round of the season at the Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by New Mexico. SDSU is currently in 14th place but are only eight shots behind third place Pepperdine, and four strokes behind a five-team tie for seventh. There are 17 teams in the field, including six in this week's top 25. Host New Mexico is leading the tournament after shooting +3, 295. Senior Shayna Miyajima led SDSU with a 75 (+2) at the 6,069 yard, par 73 UNM Championship course. The second round will begin on Friday at 8:30 am with the final round being started on Saturday at the same time.

Miyajima posted three birdies and five bogeys in the first round of her final season with the Aztecs. Shayna posted a team best 76.7 average as a junior, which was also the fifth best average in the Mountain West Conference.

Freshman Heather MacRae posted the Aztecs second best score with an up and down round of 77. After two pars to open the round MacRae posted four straight bogeys. However, the freshman fought back and posted three straight birdies to finish the front side. Heather than bogeyed three of her last five holes to end the day in a tie for 26th at +4.

The final three Aztecs, Jenna Wilson, Sandy Kim, and Jamie Oliver all posted rounds of 81 (+8).
