COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State women's soccer forward Lisette Martinez and goalkeeper Stephanie Pearson have been named Mountain West Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. This is the first career weekly award for both recipients.
Martinez and Pearson helped the Aztecs to two shutouts over the weekend - a 3-0 victory against Southern Utah on Sept. 19 and a 1-0 blanking of Weber State on Sept. 20.
Martinez assisted on three of SDSU's four goals. Against Southern Utah, she assisted each of the team's first two goals by defender Ashley Cooper (18:40) and forward Holly Huppert (42:39). Martinez also assisted midfielder Jen Klunder's game-winning goal against Weber State at the 24:35 mark of the match.
Pearson recorded five saves in holding the two opponents scoreless. Her shutout streak of 202:37 is the team's longest since SDSU's final game of 2000 to the middle of the fourth game of 2001, a span of 254:46. She has 19 saves and three shutouts on the season, while compiling a goals against average of 1.67.
Martinez and Pearson and their Aztec teammates return to action with a home match at the SDSU Sports Deck against Nevada at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26.
