Wichita, Kan. - San Diego State picked up its second victory of the day at the Green Mill Restaurant Volleyball Classic at Wichita State Friday afternoon as it defeated Nicholls State, 3-1 (30-19, 30-18, 29-31, 30-13). Along the way, senior middle blocker Aspen McPartland recorded her 1,000th kill as an Aztec to help SDSU improve to 6-3 on the season. Nicholls State, which earlier in the day dropped a three-game match to Wichita State, saw its record fall to 2-5.
McPartland, who finished the match with 15 kills and 13 digs for her third double-double of the year, has totaled 1,011 kills over her four seasons at San Diego State. In addition to McPartland, Zlatina Anguelova also had a double-double, her second of the day, with 10 kills and a dozen digs.
Match-high kill honor went to Nicholls State's Caley Carter with 24 as she accounted for over half of the Colonels' 47 kills for the match.
Once again, the Aztecs came up big on the block with a team total of 16.5 compared to eight for Nicholls State. Just as she did in the first match of the day, Megan Schauermann led SDSU with eight blocks as she improved her team-leading average to 1.66 bpg. Outside hitter Melissa Cansdale and setter Sara Engstrom also chipped in with six blocks apiece.
Offensively, San Diego State hit .248 over the four games while holding the Colonels to a 0.97 attack percentage. It was the second contest in a row in which SDSU held its opponent under .100 for the match.
The Aztecs continue tourney action in Wichita with a match vs. Oral Roberts on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 2:30 p.m. (CDT), then finish up with a match against the host Shockers at 7:30 p.m. (CDT).
