SAN DIEGO (AP) - Freshman Lynell Hamilton ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Diego State to a 19-9 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

Hamilton scored on runs of 1 and 15 yards in the second half as San Diego State increased its 6-3 halftime lead against the Division 1-AA Eagles.

Hamilton, who carried the ball 23 times, became San Diego State's first true freshman to run for more than 100 yards in his collegiate debut.

San Diego State won its season opener for the first time since 1999. The Aztecs also snapped a seven-game losing streak in non-conference games.

Kicker J.C. Mejia, a walk-on, provided all the San Diego State scoring in the first half with field goals of 35 and 22 yards. He also missed an extra point in the second half.

Hamilton's 1-yard TD with 6:45 left in the third quarter capped a 32-yard drive, setup by Kyle Conerly's 22-yard punt return. The touchdown put San Diego State ahead 13-3.

Hamilton also scored on a 15-yard run with 12:46 remaining in the game to give the Aztecs a 19-3 lead.

Skyler Allen threw a 13-yard TD pass to Eric Kimble with 1:20 left to cut the lead to 19-9.

Rich Heintz made a 27-yard field goal for Eastern Washington, which gained only 217 yards in total offense.
