SAN DIEGO - San Diego State football fans will get their first extended look at the 2003 Aztec squad Saturday at Family Day. The event will be held at Tony Gwynn Stadium with the scrimmage just part of the activities.
Family Day is sponsored by the San Diego Union Tribune and San Diego State's new radio home, the Mighty 1090, and Aztec Store.
The gates open at 9 a.m. with the always-popular flea market open for business at that time. The flea market provides Aztec fans a chance to buy authentic Aztec gear.
Other activities include games hosted by varsity Aztec teams in the Interactive Fun Zone, a food court hosted by Papa John's Pizza and Coca Cola, and an autograph session with Aztec players following the scrimmage.
The team will hit the field for "pregame" at 9:30 a.m. with the scrimmage scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes later. The band and cheerleaders will be on hand with a brief "halftime" scheduled around 10:30 a.m.
"We are looking to get some extended time with our starters," said head coach Tom Craft. "The second scrimmage will focus more on developing some depth at a couple of positions."
San Diego State opens the season against Eastern Washington on Aug. 30th.
