STILLWATER, Okla. - The San Diego State men's golf team officially ended its season on Thursday when it failed to make the cut in the NCAA Division I Championship in Stillwater, Okla.
San Diego State fired a third-round team total of 315. It was San Diego State's best round in the NCAA Championship but still 27 strokes over par and well above SDSU's average round for the season. The Aztecs finished the event with a three-day total of 965 and 30th nationally.
"The course has played very difficult but we did not perform the way that we would have liked," said third-year head coach Dale Walker. "In the big picture, we had a great season and took a big step forward with our program by returning to the NCAA Championship. We'll remember all that we've accomplished in a few days. Our program may not be knocking on the door yet but we have at least found the right house."
The NCAA Golf Committee made the decision on Thursday morning to trim the 30-team field to 18 for Friday's final round due to the slow play and high scores during the opening rounds of the tournament.
