SAN DIEGO -- The 34th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team dropped just two sets in claiming all nine matches en route to a 7-0 victory at Utah on Saturday.
The Aztecs improved to 13-9 overall and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play while the Utes dropped to 8-11 and 1-2 in league play.
San Diego State got wins from all three of its ranked positions. In double play, top-ranked Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo were 8-6 winners over Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts at number one doubles. In singles action, 32nd-ranked Maiberger rallied from one-set down to post a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniel Lohff in number one singles. In number four singles, 106th-ranked Daniel Jung was a straight-set winner over Tomasz Grzyb, 6-4, 6-4.
In addition to Maiberger, the only other match that went three sets was at number five singles. Armando Carrascosa won a third-set super-tiebreaker for the Aztecs, with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-5 win.
San Diego State is off until next Sunday when the Aztecs travel to Santa Barbara to battle UCSB.
