San Diego - San Diego State's Garrett Cook has been named the Mountain West Conference baseball Player of the Week for his efforts in four contests last week.
Cook, a senior infielder from Santa Clara, Calif. (St. Francis HS), hit .588 (10-for -17) over games as he helped the Aztecs to a 3-1 record.
He was 3-for-6 with four RBI, a triple and a home run in a victory over the University of San Diego to start the week. In the game one win at Air Force, Cook was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of walks, followed by a 1-for-4 outing in a loss vs. the Falcons in game two.
In the game three victory, Cook sparked a seven-run seventh inning for the Aztecs with a pair of doubles (in that inning) and finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored. For the week, Cook posted a 1.059 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage. He did not strike out in 20 plate appearances.
The Aztecs travel to UC Riverside on Tuesday (April 29) for a 6:00 p.m. contest, then return home to host league-leading UNLV in a three-game series beginning Friday (May 2) at Tony Gwynn Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
