SAN DIEGO - The 32nd-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team swept the top four singles matches in defeating Colorado State, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas.
The Aztecs rebounded from a tough 4-3 loss to 24th-ranked UNLV on Friday, by dropping just six games in the top three singles matches. With the victory, San Diego State improves to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West play, while Colorado State drops to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.
San Diego State took a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. The Aztec duo of Silvia Tornier and Indra Erichsen, ranked 43rd nationally, defeated Sanja Hansson and Dasha Zhurin, 8-6, at number one doubles. At number two doubles, Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero recorded an 8-2 win over Carla Pallares and Tatyana Ugorich.
The Aztecs controlled play in the top singles positions. Romero dominated the number three position, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alexandra Paganetti. In number two singles, Lindsey Hedberg, who earned Mountain West Conference player of the week honors on Wednesday, was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Zhurin. Tornier also continued her strong play of late with a 6-4, 6-0 win at number one singles.
Patricia Graf recorded the Aztecs final point of the day, winning 6-1, 4-6, (11-9) in a third-set tiebreaker at number four singles.
The Aztecs play their third match in as many days on Sunday when SDSU plays Wyoming in Las Vegas.
