Rowing Squad Ranked 10th in Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The San Diego State women's lightweight eight rowing squad is listed among the top-10 in the country, according to the USRowing Collegiate Coaches Preseason Poll released Wednesday. The Aztecs garnered 55 points to earn the No. 10 spot. The defending IRA champions of Princeton sit atop the preseason poll, with the University of Wisconsin, Stanford, Radcliffe and Georgetown University rounding out the top five.

The lightweight team is coming off a first-place finish last weekend at the Long Beach Spring Invitational, in which the Aztecs opened the 2003 season by defeating No. 9 Long Beach State and Chapman University. The lightweight boat, consisting of Laurie Nakamura at coxswain, Ellen Wilson, Vanessa Kenley, Amanda Briggs, Amanda Corvera, Kelcey Stricker, Rachael Vrooman, Jamie Willeford and Katie Lee, returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when it competes at the annual San Diego Crew Classic on Crown Point Shores at Mission Bay.
