SAN DIEGO - The Aztec softball team (21-14) plays host to No. 20 Oregon State on Wednesday at SDSU Field. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m. The contests against the Beavers mark the beginning of a six-game homestand in which San Diego State will also face New Mexico and Colorado State in its first conference meetings of the season.
The Aztecs returned this weekend from a trip to northern California in which they picked up a 2-0 win over No. 12 Stanford on Saturday, before losing to the Cardinal (3-0) in the second game of the doubleheader. SDSU struggled at Bulldog Diamond on Sunday, losing both games to Fresno State (8-0, 3-0).
Junior first baseman Jacque Vaca continues to pace the Aztec offense, owning a team-best .350 batting average and going 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI in SDSU's win over Stanford. Right-handed pitcher Bre DeSanta threw her eighth complete-game shutout against the Cardinal and improved her record to 10-4 over the weekend.
Oregon State is led by senior Shelly Prochaska, who boasts a .400 batting average to go along with a .467 on-base percentage. The Beavers split their series with the San Diego Toreros last weekend, but are most recently coming off wins against UC Riverside.
Following the Aztecs' homestand, they will travel to Utah for contests with BYU on April 4 and the University of Utah on April 6.
