Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresh off a 2-0 victory over No. 12 Stanford on Saturday, the San Diego State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader (8-0, 3-0) to Fresno State Sunday at Bulldog Diamond. With the losses, SDSU dropped to 21-14 on the season.

The Bulldog offense exploded in the second inning of the first game, scoring five runs on five hits. Freshman Christina Clark drew a walk to bring in the first Fresno State run of the inning. Junior Lori Hoffman doubled to left field to drive home three Bulldogs and put Fresno State up, 4-0. Shasta Lewis's RBI single down the left field line gave Fresno State its fifth and final run of the frame.

Fresno State would go on to extend its lead by two more runs, as the Bulldogs had a 7-0 advantage before Hoffman reached first on an Aztec error while Clark came home in the fifth inning en route to the 8-0 victory.

Despite the 3-0 loss in the second game with Fresno State, SDSU's offense had a stronger showing than in the previous contest, tallying eight hits as seven different Aztecs hit safely in game two.

The Bulldogs took the early 3-0 lead in the second inning, as sophomore Leticia Pacheco tripled to left center to drive in two runs before Clark brought Pacheco home on a double to left center.

The Aztecs threatened in the third inning, as junior Jacque Vaca singled to center field to load the bases and keep the inning alive, but SDSU was unable to score. Junior Janna Kovensky and sophomore Danielle Touhey also notched hits in the contest, while sophomore right fielder Jennifer Funk went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Although Aztec pitcher Celena Velasquez (5-4) picked up her fourth loss of the season, the freshman threw four scoreless innings after the initial three-run Fresno State second, allowing just four more hits and walking only one batter.

San Diego State returns home to host Oregon State on Wednesday at SDSU Field. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
