STANFORD, Calif. - Aztec pitcher Bre DeSanta tossed seven scoreless innings while juniors Janna Kovensky and Jacque Vaca each drove in a run as the San Diego State softball team defeated No. 12 Stanford, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Smith Family Stadium. SDSU lost its second game of the doubleheader, 3-0. The Aztecs improved to 21-12 on the season and are now 4-4 against ranked opponents this year.
In the first game, SDSU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Vaca doubled to left to bring home Kovensky. In the fifth inning, Kovensky, who went 2-for-3 in the game, notched a two-out double to score sophomore Jennifer Funk and put the Aztecs up for good, 2-0. Stanford had opportunities to score in the fourth and seventh innings, but couldn't manage to bring its runners home. The Cardinal left a total of 12 runners stranded in the game.
The win marked DeSanta's eighth complete-game shutout. The sophomore now has a 10-3 record.
