SAN DIEGO - The No. 30 San Diego State women's tennis team won its second consecutive Mountain West Conference match in as many days, downing Air Force, 7-0, Friday at the SDSU Courts. With the win, the Aztecs, who opened conference play with a 5-2 victory over New Mexico Thursday, moved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in league action, while the Falcons fell to 10-7 and 0-1 in the MWC.
In singles competition, SDSU won all six matches in straight sets, owning a 72-12 margin in games won. Aztec sophomore Katalina Romero (Tijuana, Mexico) swept her opponent, Falcon Kelli O'Bryant, 6-0, 6-0, while junior Lindsey Hedberg (Austin, Texas) and freshman Indra Erichsen (Husum, Germany) each won their matches, 6-0, 6-1.
The Aztecs also dominated the doubles competition as Hedberg and partner Sarah Sansom did not lose a game to the Air Force duo of Jen Nigro and Katie Temkie (8-0). The closest match in doubles came at the number two spot, with junior Katja Karrento (Mariehamm, Finland) and Romero defeating Heather Shelby and O'Bryant, 8-5.
Following the victory over the Falcons, SDSU recorded a perfect 4-0 record in its four matches this week and now owns a current five-match win streak heading into next Friday's meeting at conference foe UNLV, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
