SDSU Coach Steve Fisher: Fisher (Illinois State '67) is in his fourth season at San Diego State with a record of 56-62. Now in his 12th full season as a head coach, he has amassed a 240-144 mark. Fisher led Michigan to the 1989 national championship and made three trips to the national championship game in his eight full seasons in Ann Arbor. The 1991-92 national coach of the year, he led the Aztecs to a 21-12 mark last year en route to the NCAA Tournament. Fisher has helped the Aztecs increase their win total in each of his first three seasons (from 4-to-5-to-14-to-21). In guiding SDSU to its second-ever NIT appearance this season, Fisher is making his third trip to the NIT including the 1997 championship with Michigan.
Texas Tech Coach Bob Knight: Knight (Ohio State '62) is in his second season at the helm of the Red Raiders program and his 37th overall as a Div. I head coach. A Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall-of-Famer, Knight boasts a career record of 806-310 in guiding each of his last 25 teams to the postseason. A three-time NCAA Championship winner at Indiana, Knight has coached the Red Raiders to a 42-21 record in his two seasons in Lubbock.
The Series: San Diego State and Texas Tech are meeting for the second time this season, third time in two seasons and the seventh time ever. The Red Raiders lead the series, 4-2, after a 75-63 win in San Diego on Jan. 6 that marked the first win by a road team in the all-time series. Texas Tech has won all three games previous games in Lubbock.
