SAN DIEGO - The 29th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis won seven of nine matches en route to a 5-2 victory over Princeton on Monday afternoon at the SDSU Courts.
The Aztecs won all three doubles matches and four of six singles matches in winning for the third consecutive time. The Aztecs are now 9-3 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 7-3. Princeton's lone victories came in three-set super-tiebreakers at number one and number three singles.
The Aztecs swept all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match. The 32nd ranked doubles team of Silvia Tornier and Indra Erichsen won at number one doubles and Katja Karrento and Lindsey Hedberg clinched the point for the Aztecs with a win at number two doubles.
San Diego State took the drama out of the match early in singles play, winning four matches in straight sets, dropping only nine games in eight sets. Hedberg posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two singles, giving the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.
Katalina Romero won at number four by a 6-0, 6-2 margin and San Diego State clinched the match with Erichsen winning 6-1, 6-0 at number six singles. Patricia Graf completed the scoring for SDSU with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number five singles.
The Aztecs open a stretch of three matches in three days on Wednesday against Purdue. San Diego State will then open league play with matches against New Mexico on Friday and Air Force on Saturday. All three matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with the match against the Boilermakers and Falcons scheduled for the SDSU Courts. The Aztec match with the Lobos will be played at the Barnes Tennis Center.
