TEMPE, Ariz. -- The 35th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team won four singles matches in three sets en route to a 5-2 victory over 47th-ranked Arizona State on Saturday afternoon.
The Aztecs claimed the doubles point on the strength of a win at number one doubles. The team of Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo, ranked second nationally, defeated 14th-ranked Olivier Charroin and Chris Stewart at number one doubles.
The Sun Devils claimed straight-set victories in number four and five singles. The Aztecs rallied to win the remaining four singles matches - all in three sets.
In number one singles, 53rd-ranked Maiberger rallied from a set down to defeat Pim Van Mele, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Redondo, Felix Hardt and Gabe Coren also claimed singles victories for the Aztecs.
San Diego State is now 6-8 on the season while Arizona State fell to 4-8. The Aztecs return to action on Thursday when they play host to Yale. Match time at the SDSU Courts is set for 1:30 p.m. PST.
