SDSU Women's Basketball Opens The 2003 EAS MWC Championship With New Mexico
For the third consecutive season, the San Diego State women's basketball team will kick-off the Mountain West Conference Championship with a first-round meeting against New Mexico. The No. 7 seed Aztecs and No. 2 seed Lobos square-off this Wed., March 12, at 6 p.m. (PST) in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Thomas and Mack Center. The game will be broadcast live on Channel 4 (TV) San Diego and via an audio webcast on www.goaztecs.com.
Utah earned the top seed after claiming its third regular-season title in the MWC's four-year history with a 12-2 record. The Utes face No. 8 seed Air Force in Wednesday's first game, beginning at noon, while No. 4 UNLV and No. 5 Brigham Young tip-off at 2:30 p.m. Third-seeded Colorado State and sixth-seeded Wyoming round out the day's first round match-ups at 8:30 p.m.

-The Records: SDSU (9-17, 3-11 MWC) faces New Mexico (19-8, 9-5 MWC) for the third straight season in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Aztecs, who have dropped their last three games, will look to end a six-game losing streak against New Mexico. Included in that streak is a pair of losses in the first round of each of the last two MWC championships, with the Lobos coming out on top 65-52 in 2002, and 55-49 in 2001.
-In The RPI: In the 25th RPI rankings released by the WBCA through games of March 9, SDSU moved to 212th, while New Mexico is No. 34. The Aztecs are No. 215 (College Basketball News) and No. 195 (Collegerpi.com), respectively, in the other major RPIs.
SDSU Head Coach Jim Tomey: Tomey (Michigan '81) is in his first season at San Diego State, taking over the Aztec helm on April 9, 2002. His career and Aztec head coaching record is 9-17.
New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan: Flanagan (Ft. Lewis, 1971) is in his eighth season with the Lobos. His New Mexico and career head coaching record is 163-80.
