SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's crew team had a strong showing on Sunday in its spring-opener, posting decisive victories over Loyola Marymount and UC Irvine in three of the four races at the Parker Cup Regatta held in Newport's Lido Channel.
The lone setback was in the varsity eight, where a poor start put the SDSU shell a boat-length down early in the race and was unable to climb back into the contest. The second varsity eight more than proved the Aztecs have some depth, by winning their race by more than 23 seconds over second-place finisher UC Irvine.
Crew hits the road again on Thursday when it travels to Charlottesville for a double dual race with perennial rowing power University of Virginia and up-and-coming University of Delaware on Saturday, March 15th. Virginia finished fourth as a team at the 2002 NCAA Championships.
