SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team scored just 18 points and shot only 20 percent from the field in the second half, as Wyoming defeated the Aztecs 66-52 Saturday night at Cox Arena. The loss snapped SDSU's two-game conference win streak and dropped the Aztecs to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in MWC play. The Cowgirls, meanwhile, improved to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Aztec senior guard Jamey Cox (Waterloo, Iowa) paced SDSU's offense, scoring a team-high 17 points including five, three-pointers on a school record 18 attempts from beyond the arc. Freshman forward Ashlee Dunlap (Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed 12 points to go along with 13 for her MWC-leading eighth double-double of the season.

Cox opened the contest with her first three-pointer just 19 seconds into the game. Cowgirl Ashley Elliot answered with a three-pointer of her own to tie the game less than 20 seconds later. In all, the Aztecs were 6-of-11 beyond the arc, while Wyoming made five of its eight three-point attempts in the first half alone.

The first half also saw four lead changes, as the Cowgirls took the biggest lead at 29-21 before the Aztecs closed the gap to three points at the half, 37-34.

After shooting 50 percent in the first 20 minutes, the Aztec offense went cold to begin the second half, managing just three points in the first eight and a half minutes as the Cowgirls ran out to a 15-point advantage at 52-37.

The Aztecs did not get the Wyoming lead to under double-figures until senior Ashonda Williams (Crockett, Calif.), who finished the game with 10 points, converted two free throws at 56-48. The closest SDSU would get to Wyoming in the second half came when Dunlap converted a three-point play at 58-51 to put the Aztecs behind by seven at the 3:46 mark.

Cowgirl Ann McColl quickly answered just one play later, burying her only three-pointer of the game to put her team up 61-51. The Aztecs would score just one more point in the last 2:40, as Wyoming went onto win 66-52.

McColl led the Cowgirls in scoring with 20 points, while two other Wyoming players also posted double-figure point totals as Elliot ended up with 13 points and Lisa McCann notched 10.

SDSU heads to Las Vegas Saturday for a single game next week at Mountain West Conference foe UNLV. Tip-off is set for 7:35 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion.
