Women's Tennis Blanked 7-0 At No. 2 USC

Feb. 28, 2003

LOS ANGELES - The 29th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team tested the nation's No. 2 team before falling 7-0 to USC at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Women of Troy (10-1), who have now won five straight including four consecutive shutouts, earned three three-set victories over the Aztecs (5-2).

USC lost only three games in three doubles matches to gain the first point of the meet. The Women of Troy then earned three two-set wins at No. 5, No. 3 and No. 2 singles to go up 4-0 and seal the victory.

However, SDSU did not go down without a fight in the remaining matches. Silvia Tornier and Patricia Graf each won the first set in their respective matches before eventually succumbing in three sets. At No. 6 singles, Indra Erichson came back from losing the first set 4-6 to win the second, 6-3, but USC's Melissa Esmero took the third 10-8 in a tiebreaker to gain the final point of the day.

The Aztecs return to action next Friday, March 7, when they host Washington for a 2 p.m. meeting at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
