SAN DIEGO (AP) - Freshman Evan Burns scored a career-high 31 points and Tony Bland keyed a second-half surge to lift San Diego State to an 89-73 win over New Mexico on Monday night.
Burns, a 6-foot-8 forward, came off the bench to play his best game of the season, hitting 12-of-15 shots. He also had a career-high 13 rebounds and connected on 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Bland, playing in his final home game, scored 15 points when San Diego State (14-10, 5-6 Mountain West) pulled away with a 24-12 run in the first 6 1-2 minutes of the second half. Bland finished with 21 points.
New Mexico (9-15, 3-8) suffered its 16th consecutive road loss despite Ruben Douglas tying his career high with 43 points. The losing streak is the school's longest since the Lobos lost 26 in a row on the road from 1956-60. New Mexico is 0-9 on the road this season.
Douglas, the nation's leading scorer at 27.9 points per game, hit his first four shots, including three long 3-pointers. He finished 11-of-24 from the field and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Douglas also had 12 rebounds and five assists.
The crowd of 6,117 helped San Diego State set a new school record with an average attendance of 7,221 per game.
