Aztecs' Oliver Maiberger Named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Oliver Maiberger was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending February 18. It is Maiberger's first award of the season and the 11th of his career.

Maiberger posted a 2-1 singles record and teamed with Ryan Redondo to record a 2-1 doubles record at the Great Northwest Shootout.

Maiberger, ranked 13th nationally in singles, highlighted a strong week against some of the nation's toughest competition by posting victories in number one singles and doubles against seventh-ranked Stanford. He posted a straight set 7-6, 6-4 victory over Ryan Haviland to record the Aztecs only singles victory against the Cardinal. Maiberger and Redondo, ranked sixth nationally in doubles, upset third-ranked Scott Lipsky and David Martin, 8-4.

The Aztecs will be back in action at the USTA-ITA Indoor Championships in Louisville, Ky., from Thursday through Saturday. San Diego State will battle number one seed and top-ranked UCLA in the first round of the 16 team-tournament.
