POWAY, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team defeated Oregon, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in its final game of the 2003 Campbell/Cartier Classic. With the win, the Aztecs improved to 6-4 on the season, posting four wins over the weekend in tournament action. The Ducks, meanwhile, picked up their fourth loss of the season and now own a 9-4 overall record after going 1-3 at the classic.

The contest was a pitcher's dual as Aztec sophomore Bre DeSanta allowed just four hits and struck out five through seven innings of work. Oregon's Amy Harris fanned three batters and gave up only three hits in her outing for the Ducks.

Aztec juniors Kelcy Murphy and Jacque Vaca each had one hit in the game, as Murphy laid down a bunt single in the fourth and Vaca doubled to right field in the fifth, but SDSU couldn't manage to bring its runners home.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh. Janna Kovensky came to the plate first for the Aztecs. On a 3-2 pitch the junior outfielder drilled a solo shot to left field to end the game and give SDSU its third consecutive victory.

San Diego State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 21, when it faces Iowa State at 9 a.m. at the UCSB Softball by the Beach Invitational.
