IRVINE, Calif. - The 25th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over No. 72 UC Irvine on Saturday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The Aztecs swept through the doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead, as only the SDSU team of junior Katja Karrento (Mariehamn, Finland/Alands Lyceum) and sophomore Katalina Romero (Tijuana, Mexico/Instituto Mexico) was extended in a 9-7 win over UC Irvine's Anna Bentzer and Christie Posner.
SDSU then emerged victorious in five of six singles matches. The Aztecs earned four wins in straight sets, including a 1 and 2 win in the sixth slot by Indra Erichsen (Husum, Germany/Stadt Husum), and earned a fifth triumph as Romero won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 over Amy Tranckino.
San Diego State returns to action tomorrow when the Aztecs host Cal Poly at the SDSU Courts beginning at 10 a.m.
